It seems like only yesterday we were preparing our trucks for last year’s winter season, and while the heat of summer continues through our Autumn months, it’s that time of year again that we need to start thinking about preparing our trucks for the wet winter ahead.

Remember, a good routine makes for a healthy truck. We’ve listed some of our top pre-winter inspection checks to help you get your truck or van ready. Check out our winter pre-inspection checklist below.

Wiper blades and washer fluid levels

Wiper blades are critical in the winter months. Deteriorated wiper blades can cause blurred visibility on the road. When wiper blades deteriorate, proper contact with the windscreen is prevented, leaving you without a clear view of the road. This causes high risks out on the road.

Inspect your brakes

We all know the importance of brakes on the road. Check your brake operations for wear and tear prior to leaving on your next trip. Inspect your parking brake, hydraulic brakes, air brakes and brake pads.

Winter Truck Inspection

Battery performance

Ensure you battery is in peak working order prior to winter. Cold temperatures can cause batteries to run slower, causing battery power to decrease. This can make is difficult to start the engine.

Oil check

One of the first things you should check is your engine oil. Consistent checks of you oil, will keep your engine running in tip top condition. Oil changes improve engine lubrication and remove grime. In the colder temperatures, engine oil can thicken and at times this can cause issues for the starter engine consistency.

Check tyre tread

Prepare your tyres by rotating them regularly prior to, and during the winter months to avoid wear and tear. Tyre tread is a critical pre drive inspection check at any time of year, but especially in winter with the wet and slippery roads. What should you be looking for? Check for cracks or bald patches mainly, or anything that looks out of the norm.

Don’t risk a flat tyre. Ensure your tyre pressure is correct and ready to go before hitting the road.

Lights and reflectors

Ensure you have clear visibility for both yourself and others on the road. Check your lights and reflectors are clear and operating as they should.

These tips will provide you with peace of mind that your truck is ready for the cooler months. Our goal is that your vehicle will experience the advantages of improved safety, lower maintenance costs, reduced fuel consumption, enhanced performance, and increased vehicle up time.
